I write under the name Julian DeVille. This is a pen name, designed to protect my privacy while allowing me to present a clear identity to readers. I prefer the work to speak for itself.
My writing is concerned with the tensions of our age. The fragility of democracy, the rise of extremism, the advent of popularism and the thinly disguised but somehow inexorable drift towards autocracy lurking in the small print of current political agendas.
My focus is on the values of good and evil that we teach our children, our standards of right and wrong, our expectation of fairness and common decency. The very foundations of the modern society for which our forefathers fought two world wars.
Courage. Discipline. Respect for others. Integrity. Loyalty. Selfless commitment.
These are the moral values that have guided our lives, our society and our culture for centuries. The basis for the security of the planet. They are not abstract themes to be debated away by sophists and dissembling leaders advised by marketing consultants. They demand to be defended.
For far too long we have ignored the need for the hard physical power necessary to defend the freedoms we have complacently taken for granted. And now that these are threatened, it is vital that we defend them. We must remind ourselves of what matters. Of what matters for our children and our children’s children.
So it is that the integrity of our politicians, the freedoms of speech and the press, and the independence of our courts, military and police forces must all be the subject of our intense scrutiny if they are to survive the threats of those who seek to subvert them.
I do not write simply to entertain. I write to educate, to unsettle, and to inspire. My stories must hold up a mirror to society and raise difficult questions. They must challenge assumptions and provoke thought. And contribute to the thinking of a society which has, frankly, lost its way. That is the tradition within which I see myself working.
I believe the written word is invaluable, no matter the growing power of the screens we carry about with us. Words should be rich, descriptive, and resonant. My style must stand for quality and for the way it creates vivid worlds that feel authentic and alive. It must blend narrative with cultural depth, so that the work is not only compelling but also meaningful.
So far, I have written three books. I am excited to reveal these in the not too distant future, and I look forward to sharing them with readers who are ready to engage with the ideas they contain.
Yours sincerely,
